Time to Fix Things

If you haven't noticed the lag, it's pretty bad. Well I've been working on fixing it all week, trying to figure out what's causing the problem. There are several things wrong after finally diagnosing everything.

1. Server got a virus last Saturday, removed it, but probably backdoored the computer (cause of lag)
2. Biomes flipped, this is probably due to 1.0.0 or carelessness of another admin creating lag when entering a snow biome because it technically does not exist (this is being taken care of)
3. Regen has stopped working

What’s our solution?

-Fresh OS installation, this will remove the virus completely
-Complete removal of both SMP maps
-Complete rebuild of server

What does this mean?

-The fresh OS installation isn't too much of a big deal to you guys, just means an hour or two of down time.

-This is the only thing that’s going to drastically affect anyone who builds on the survival world. I'm sorry but I've tried repairing the map but it just can't be fixed even with the 24 hour rollback it didn't fix the problem.
--FLATGRASS, PUBLIC BUILD, STORAGE, AND PRIVATE MAPS WILL NOT BE RESET

-The complete rebuild of the server should have no effect on anyone; you might notice a change or two, mostly if I missed something, but I've been playing on the test server looking for bugs and haven't found any yet

-There’s going to be a Time Lapse Saturday!
-I will be printing stickers soon, they will be free and given out to contest winners!

-There will be a world edit option for players in SMP and Free build!
--SMP world edit, will be limited on your inventory, meaning you need to have the items for it to work! (They will not have //set 0)
--Freebuild will be restricted to 100 or 50 blocks at a time 10x10 space,

-New commands will be given

Guests will be able to do /spawn in Flatgrass
Players in all worlds will be able to do /remove
World edit commands go study the chart at world edits wiki

Sorry about some of the bad news, that map lasted quite a while, it could of laster longer though, but updates fucked us up as well as some other peoples carelessness

why the freebuild restriction?
i thought flatgrass was so people can build without restrictions such as space or limited resources..

lol, on pwn9 it only takes about a month for a map to get corrupted chunks

we have the ability to run maps for a long ass time until some dumb fuck decides to fuck around,

and kitty that's referring world edit so people just learning wont crash the server or if they set wrong items it's easily fixable

Yes well, we have issued that problem before but never actually did anything about it. We obviously don't have enough moderator nominations but we can't really make some since not many people deserve to be moderators. Also, moderators don't really know what they are supposed to do since no-one actually explained their job to them...

For the too many admin problem, ask Tim about it since I have no say in who becomes admin and who doesn't. We have a lot of admins that should be moderators because they don't come on a lot but ya... I don't know...

I've just stop entirely adding admins except Xephisto, but he was already a mod. and I do explain there jobs, the mods (Hadskills, Xephisto, Broaddus and Gopher) all know how things work and what to do, and they all did there job. All of them know how to use big brother, and world edit. And I know who did it, I've already had a couple people tell me and I looked at the server.txt file to see who did it. I'm not sure how to deal with it yet. but if you think about it we probably have a perfect amount of admins right now, we could use more mods, but like you said know one really deserves it. and sure boss I'll email you the group and user files

We have a decent amount of active admins. We don't have any mods that actually do mod things though. And, as mentioned before, this server is just bullshit after bullshit. There aren't any people who I would like to get mod, or even trust to get mod.

I think you guys just need to play with members and lower ranks more and get to know them. I know a few decent members that i think would make great mod. but what do i know. Im only a member and know one ever pays attention to members that much

we must grow our server larger so we have a larger population to choose

oh and we need to stop resting maps and losing attractive builds

we should get schematics of good builds on file so we can directly paste em into the normal world again for use...or can we not do that?

We pay attention all the time sadly there's only so much we can do, just you guys tire us out, constantly asking questions, most of which can easily be answered with google! and then people constantly ask us to come see there builds and we aren't able to focus on our work, or play with players because were being nagged all the time. A lot of the admins are wanting a fake log off system so we don't show up online because it's ludicrous how bad it gets some times.

Then there's the chat clutter that makes it hard for us to focus on one person that's why we used to try to get people on ventrilo but people then refused to get on it and and glorify skype, and we wont use skype because that just splits up the community. Ventrilo if your not using it, is the most amazing program out there, it's massive group voice chat with channels and it's push to talk, so you don't need to listen to people breathing and you can hang out with your friends in your own channel and then come up and ask an admin when you need help. We rarely sit in a private channel but even then you can "page" us.

The reason we don't give mod at is because no one follows the criteria to get it. Everyone thinks they deserve it but they don't understand how important communication is between them and the admins. If more of you got on Ventrilo and hung out with us on there we be more easy giving out ranks. But what happens is people come on for 10 mins and ask for trusted and we don't give it to them. Then they leave and rage quit or act like an ass.

Then no one uses the forums except for builder aps and introductions. All the admins and mods are on the forums to be social. But sadly we just end up talking to ourselves. Recently I have started to see more activity but still it's minimal, and strangely people have been asking if they can post something, it's a forum everyone is aloud to post what every they want!

Also we do events, we had the pvp a couple weeks ago we gave out some games too!, were going to do it again soon towards the end of febuary and a time lapse some time between that.

I have never have asked for a rank. I understand greatly that i have to earn it. Good things come to people that wait. Also, im confused about the ventrilo server. Is it on minecraft? I tried puting in the IP and port but i couldnt connect. Do i have to have a mic? I confused.

Ventrilo is a completely different program, you don't have to have a mic but just be aware it is voice chat, and we don't use the "chat" feature of ventrilo

And yes pant we can, just no one asks, same with world guarding things.
